Posterous theme by Cory Watilo

My Love

Although not a corporate worship song, you might enjoy this one.  Blake wrote it for my wedding to Lindsay back in 2000.  It's tender, romantic, and theological... how's that for a mix?  My favorite line is from the last verse- "Now you're one holy treasure, a light for them to see, framed by God, a divine picture, the way that love should be."

Blake poetically infused the reciprocal metaphor of the church and marriage found in Ephesians 5 into a romantic wedding song.  If he's not a poster child for the Master's College music program then who is?

This recording is again from The Wellington Project, our ancient missions fund raiser cd.

Praise to Jesus Christ Congregational

Here's a version of Praise to Jesus Christ from the 2005 Master's College Chapel Band studio worship album, "Praise to Jesus Christ."

This version is more "congregational friendly."  Lead sheet and chords are available on a previous post.

Psalm 115

"Psalm 115" is a simple song that Blake and I wrote on our missions trip to New Zealand in 2001.  We actually wrote it around 3 AM at the airport in Honulu, Hawaii with the creative genius Nicolai Pederson.  It focuses on the futility of false gods versus the greatness of the God who is the great I AM... it's simple and sweet.

The audio version posted here has special significance.  It was one of the tracks from our 2002 Master's College chapel band live album.  This was back when a live worship album was cutting edge.  Enjoy.

And the lyrics:

Psalm 115

Copyright 2001 Ryan Boys, Blake Boys, with Nicolai Pederson

Not to us, to Your name be the glory, O Lord

Idols of gold, have eyes that cannot see,

Have ears that cannot hear

But You see all the earth,

You hear every cry, You are the Lord

You are our help, You are our strength,

You are our shield

We praise the living God, who reigns forevermore

You are the Lord

We Come to You

I (Ryan) wrote "We Come to You" in response to reading John's Piper's re-publication of Jonathan Edwards' The End for Which God Created the World.  Piper sets up Edwards in the first part of the book, and talks about our times of corporate worship being a public declaration of God's greatness and our need for Him.  That is to say, God is not pleased more by songs performed by professional musicians than by hacks like you and me.  We do not earn favor with God through an excellently performed worship song, instead, God is glorified as we acknowledge out loud His greatness and our need for Him.  He is glorified in us as we acknowledge our weakness and absolute need for Him.

This primitive recording is from our ancient 2001 missions trip fundraiser album "The Wellington Project."

And the lyrics:

We Come to You

©2000 Ryan Boys

We come to You with empty hands,

Nothing to give we understand

You are the Lord, holy and just

You sent Your Son to die for us

Be glorified in us, as our weakness turns to

Trust in You for who You are

And faith in You as we call You our God

We come to You with empty hearts

Knowing that You alone impart

Salvation to a sinful man

The greatness of Your perfect plan

We come to You the sovereign King

And sing the song of the redeemed

Your glory found in lowly man

Bought by the blood of Christ the Lamb

We come to You with empty hands,

Nothing to give we understand

Because of Your great love for us

We can be called the sons of God

Lord Jehovah

"Lord Jehovah" was the first worship song I ever wrote (Ryan).  I wanted a corporate worship song that specifically focused on God as creator, sustainer, and savior.  For inquiring minds "Jehovah" is one of the ways that the Hebrew name for God Yahweh has been transliterated into English (via Latin).  The title itself proclaims the Lordship of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

The version posted here is from the The Master's College Chapel Band studio album from 2005, "Praise to Jesus Christ."

From Heaven Above

"From Heaven Above" is a Christmas themed worship song celebrating the coming of the incarnate Son of God, Jesus Christ.  The words for the verses are selected from Martin Luther's classic Christmas play written for his own children in 1531.  It opens from the perspective of an angelic announcement, and shifts to the human perspective in verse 4.  We added the chorus, and hope that this will help you worship Jesus Christ, especially around Christmas time.

Here are the lyrics:

 From Heaven Above

Words: Martin Luther, 1531

Chorus and Music: Ryan Boys, December 2006

Verse 1

From heaven above to earth I come

To bear good news to every home

Glad tidings of great joy I bring

Whereof I now will say and sing

Verse 2

‘Tis Christ our God, who far on high

Had heard your sad and bitter cry

Himself will your Salvation be

Himself from sin will make you free

Chorus

So sing hallelujah, to the Lamb in the manger

The Lamb and the Savior

So sing hallelujah, to the Lion of Judah

The Lion who sits on the throne

Verse 3

He brings those blessings long ago

Prepared by God for all below

That in His heavenly kingdom blest

You may with us forever rest

Verse 4

Welcome to earth, Thou noble guest

Through whom even wicked men are blest

You came to share our misery

What can we render, Lord, to Thee?

Praise to Jesus Christ

Praise to Jesus Christ is based on Isaiah 53.  The chorus is focused on giving praise to the living suffering servant.  Jesus Christ, faithful to suffer for our sins, is the savior who lives, stands, and pleads on our behalf today in heaven.  In the last verse the focus shifts to the end of time when all of creation will recognize His worth.

The studio version you'll hear here is by Chasing Cadence from their album "Awake O' Sleeper."  We'll post a more congregational version later; this one is too sweet not to post!  The song is available for purchase on Itunes.

And here are the bare lyrics for those interested:

Praise to Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53)

Copyright Ryan Boys 2002

Verse 1

You were left, despised, forsaken

Man of sorrows, grief unspoken

To the cross our sins you carried

Struck by God so it was finished there

Verse 2

Pierced alone for our transgressions

Crushed for our iniquities

We like sheep have gone astray

For our debt the price You paid

Chorus

Praise to Jesus Christ in Heaven

You in love for us were given

God’s great mercy coming through You

Lamb of God who takes away our sin

Verse 3

Holy God was pleased to crush You

As the guiltless sacrifice

Raised in power You give salvation

God’s good pleasure prospers in Your hand

Verse 4

Final Lord of all creation

Heav’n and earth will sing your praises

Lion of Judah, Lamb of slaughter

Of  Your worthy name we’ll always sing
